Congrats man. If you can replicate what Guy Kawasaki did for Apple back in the day, Clarion is going to take off big time. I know you already have the passion so hopefully both the existing and future communities will respond in kind.

Brett, Cheers. Not that I'm after people giving me kudos .. but thankyou. It's much appreciated.

Importantly, it will be a strong backbone of the community that allows this endeavour to succeed. With new folk coming, and doing outreach to the wider development world, strength is going to be a great asset.

HULK STRENGTH!!!.

Jan,

I will be liasing between the community and SV. More, I will be spear-heading the growth into the wider development community. It is this that I hope you get excited about, although I realise that we all having pressing concerns right now that need to be dealt with.

Part of my role will be mediation between you (the Community) and SV. But my ultimate purpose is to see Clarion succeed. That is my vision. And it should be the vision of all clarion programmers. Not to sound preachy, although I am, but a better future for all is the aim.

Cheers,

But of course ... we all want SV & Clarion to succeed.

How about you start now and ask for a candid schedule of C.Net and C7 release :)

And BTW, thanks for the job you are doing.

Jan,

Ha ha, I'm not sure asking for a candid release schedule would be a good first move on my part :).

Thankyou for your .. thanks. It's going to be a hard road, but I believe worthwhile.

Dear Stu, Tech Evangelist:

Here's a good start for you but might not be for me and this place seemed like the most current to get my questions answered.

I started with Clarion Dos back I think about 1991 or so. Never did
any programming before. It took me months to finally to understand the basic idea of relational data base design with fields and files. When I did finally connected with it, I found I was very good at the design part but it was a continuous learning process of what I needed to make it do and getting it done. I created some extremely complex scientific data processing programs with it. It became so necessary to complete some of these programs there was a period where I spent three years on average 12 hours a day and continued up to about 1997. I needed to plot certain points on a grid or a map if you will and be able to display optional info in regards to each point plotted. The program back then was buggy and it was a mess to try to accomplish this with some kind of graphic mapping procedure.

I have not done much or I might say unable to do much since then.

I am now almost 57 years old and am interested but don't know if the brain is willing. I just looked and I have the Clarion Version 1.0, Release 1003.

How much of a problem is it to convert these programs to current releases, the cost and what manuals would come with it, the amount of debugging, gliches involved and just the amount of new procedures and language that would be involved?

I am also interested in construction of an internet site and being able to use my data base work in conjunction with that.

Okay Evangelist Stu I am your first possible member it appears.

I'm hurting already just thinking about it so you may need a miracle.

Thank you very much for your sincere time and consideration.

DRSANGLE,

Thanks for the discussion.

I'll email you direct on this one. Suffice to say, for any readers, that I'm going to recommend a clean development slate. In my opinion, starting over with a clear (and that might take some pen and paper planning) vision is preferable to (shudder) the kind of upgrade path you're talking about from 1 to 6.3.

Actually, that's a pretty cool thing in and of itself. Having used 1.0 and then nothing. Nice.

Gary,

Ha ha. Cheers. There's a lot involved, and I'm definitely going to need help along the way.

"Pastor Stu" is okay, but I would prefer "Leader Leader Leader" (sung to the batman song, ala Homer), heh heh.
